One of the basic facts about a plant is that it lives in soil. There are many important qualities
of soil that dictate how well any plant will do.
The PH level measures how basic or how acidic a soil is. Avocado trees traditionally have proven
to function best in a soil PH of 6.5. I decided to purchase a PH meter, and test out my soil.
This year, I will need to spring for a full soil analysis, where they test many qualities of the soil.
My understanding is that this test will cost about $100.00 to process about 8 soil samples. I will report
my findings here.
I purchased a Hanna HI9813 pH meter, for no particular reason except that it was on the shelf at Fruit Growers Supply
in Santa Paula, CA.
